Our first alumni band reunion, 2004
It all started from a conversation that MTA Audrey Dawson had with her nephew, Jarius who was, at the time, still in the band. He mentioned to her that he had recently seen some former members of the band. As he started telling her the names of the people that he saw, she thought to herself that it would be a great idea to have a reunion for band alumni. She compiled an email list of alumni members that were in her contact list, and eventually sent out a mass email that would help to spark plans for the first band reunion.
In 2004, alumni members of the Jones High School Marching Tiger Band came together for their first Marching Tiger Reunion (as it was called at the time) at homecoming. Following the game, alumni went to Bennigan's for a post game dinner. A great time was had by all and since then, alumni have gathered together to celebrate homecoming, now with the official name, Marching Tiger Alumni.
Today, MTA is working toward becoming an official association as well as walking in its purpose as a support system for the Marching Tigers, Rufus Redding, III (Director of Bands), and staff associated with the Marching Tigers. There is certainly more to come for this great organization.
